Surrau 2021 Naracu Cannonau di Sardegna

From the island of Sardia, Cannoneau is the local name for Garnacha. The nose opens with dusty dark cherry, wild herbs, currants and a just there note of cracked black pepper. The palate is moderate in weight with dark cherry, fennel, pepper, and dusty earth. D&M Tasting Notes

This is Surrau’s entry level Cannonau, its simplest expression of the grape from 100% estate cannonau grapes grown on soils of decomposed granite mixed with sand. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel, after which the wine is aged in stainless steel and cement tanks. Elegance is the goal here, and though the wine clocks in at 14% alcohol, it’s barely noticeable. Winery Notes
