Spirits
Spirits! We live in a golden age of spirits! It's true, there are stunning, handcrafted bourbons available today that never reached such a large audience. The world of Tequila is almost exploding with small batch bottlings that show off the pure flavor of the agave plant. Gin's are not just for tonic anymore and vodka, well the galaxy of new, lovingly made vodkas can just take your breath away.
At D&M we specialize in a few things, champagne, single malt scotch, French brandies and fine California wines, but what we really like is quality. Something that is well made, by someone who cares about what they are doing is what inspires us. That's why this revolution in the spirit world makes us so happy.
Browse through this section, and explore bourbons made in batches so small that the bottles are hand numbered. Some of these are just powerhouses of vanilla and horehound candy, others are as delicately feisty as a Southern lady. Don't forget rye, the original American spirit that is making a comeback thanks, in part, to San Francisco's own Fritz Maytag, of Anchor Steam Beer fame.
Gins are no longer the mass produced flavor-challenged mixers of the fifties, but a delicate arrangement of botanical ingredients.
Vodka, the pure distillation of grain (or potatoes or even grapes), have come a long way. With producers like Hangar One and Charbay showing the way, we know there's more to vodka than screwdrivers. Tequila, too, is showing off its sophisticated side. The single village Mescals of Del Maguey show what a different region of Mexico has to offer as well.
Rums are coming in from all around the Caribbean these days, in various depths of colors and ages.
Finally, the sweet liqueurs and fiery eau de vies that are the perfect end to a meal or the necessary ingredient in a dessert are more readily available than ever before. Explore and enjoy!
