AN EXCITING NEW CHAPTER AT D&M!

AFTER 60 YEARS OF FAMILY OWNERSHIP, MIKE & KAREN ARE RETIRING AND SELLING D&M TO FORMER MANAGER KYLE NADEAU AND A NEW LEADERSHIP TEAM.

D&M Wine and Liquor has been a mainstay at the corner of Sacramento and Fillmore Streets in San Francisco for more than a half century. Specializing in Champagne, Single Malt Scotch, French Brandies, and a unique selection of fine Wine and Spirits, Mike and Karen Politz have built upon what Mike’s father Joe started; an inviting and educational shop with a knowledgeable, talented, and attentive staff.

After decades of nurturing the shop, growing a collection of vibrant Champagne and Spirits Clubs, and building lasting relationships with customers around the corner and across the country, Karen and Mike have decided to retire and sell D&M to a new ownership team that is dedicated to strengthening the business and fostering those relationships. That new ownership team includes former D&M store manager and longtime friend of the Politz’s, Kyle Nadeau, and his partners David Osborne and Jonathan Powers. What You Need to Know:

Outside of a short closure of the store at the beginning of August to take inventory and allow for the transfer of the liquor license, nothing serious looks to change. Karen will be staying on for a period of time to help facilitate the transition and oversee club operations.

In terms of web orders, during the license transfer and inventory break, any orders placed between 4pm on Wednesday, July 31st and the second week of August will be processed upon the store reopening after the new license has been cleared. We estimate that will happen around August 10th, but since that is in the hands of the ABC we are not in control of that part of the process, so please bear with us.

Club members, this means that we have already selected upcoming Champagne Society and Club Spirits offerings for the coming months and they will still be managed by Karen as she oversees the transition over the near term. However, due to the license transfer, it will delay our Champagne Society distribution for August. You can anticipate that shipment (or email notification) coming your way when the store reopens under the new license. Longer-term, the team will continue to work to select amazing selections to share with you.

The entire staff that you have grown to love (or tolerate) will be here when we reopen.

New Leadership Team:

The group purchasing D&M brings with it decades of experience in the wine and spirits world. We will introduce them with more pomp and circumstance once the transition is complete, but here is a short introduction.

Kyle Nadeau is a former manager here at D&M and has successfully opened and run other bottle shops here in San Francisco. David Osborne has a long history in all aspects of liquor sales from the distribution side, as well as bar manager in the on-premise side of the business. And finally, Jonathan Powers is an attorney, investor, and avid whiskey collector.

Come join us for a Champagne Happy Hour as we welcome Thomas Diniz, Brand Ambassador for Champagne Henri Giraud, a small Grower-Producer from the Aÿ with a history stretching back to 1625. Today, under the leadership of 12th generation family member Claude Giraud and Cellar Master Sebastien LeGolvet, the house remains committed to the highest standards of excellence using fruit from its sustainably farmed Grand Cru terroir vineyards. Quite distinctively, they build their own oak barrels from carefully selected trees from the famed Argonne forest and use these to age their grand cuvees. At the same time, they explore the use of smaller vessels made of alternative materials including terracotta and sandstone to enhance the textures and flavors of their wines.

Appropriately being held on Robert Burns Day which celebrates the life of Scotland's National Poet, born on January 25th, 1759, this event will feature a selection of Single Malts from this 30 year old distillery founded on the tiny Isle of Arran off the Ayrshire coast, from whence Burns hails. Located in the small coastal town of Campbeltown, Springbank is one of the world's most iconic Scotch Whisky distilleries having been independently family owned and operated for nearly two centures.
