Sakurajima Komikan Half Bottle Komasa Satsuma Gin

This is quite the unique gin that fully reflects where it is from: Kagoshima at the far south of Japan. This is made with a rice shochu base with the addition of juniper, coriander, and the star of the gin: tiny (inch and a half wide) Sakurajima Komikan mandarin oranges, grown in the shadow of a quite active volcano. This is definitely a sippable gin, but would also be good with club soda. D&M Tasting Notes

The Sakurajima komikan, Japan’s smallest orange, takes its name from the active volcano around which it grows, requiring laborious care and enjoying a one-month-long harvest season each year. Local grower’s must brush the fruit skin by hand to remove ash that falls from the nearby active volcano from which the orange takes its name; this is done to avoid damage to the fruit that the ash incurs.  Importer Notes
