This delightful bottling used to come with a 15 year age-statement, and while that is no longer true, the current non-age statement production of Willett’s exceeds expectations. There had been rumors that Willett was sourcing juice from Heaven Hill, and the overall quality, texture, and style of the mash certainly supported such a conclusion. However, as of the end of 2017, Johnny Drum is distilled and bottled at Willett distillery. At the end of the day, this drinks like a characteristically high-rye 7-8 year old bourbon. If you’re a fan of the Four Roses Single Barrel or Old Granddad Bottled in Bond, then Drum boxes well above its weight class, and could easily become one of your favorite daily drinkers.
