Petit Clergeot Chevry Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature Champagne

Entirely made of Pinot Noir, and from the 2020 harvest. After its spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel it was admitted in bottle for 24 months and disgorged, without the addition of dosage, in January 2023. It yielded all of 4,290 bottles. The nose here opens with apples, dried pear, nectarines, citrus, spice, and just-there clay minerality. With time in glass the tree fruits become more pronounced with lemon oil and balancing mineral notes. On the palate this is a light and lively Pinot Noir Champagne with focused minerality, almost chalk, and a flavor set of tart apple, early season nectarines, dried pear, and lemon zest. This is drinking wonderfully now, but will last through 2035.  D&M Tasting Notes

The main man behind Petite Clergeot is Paul-Bastien Clergeot. His family has been growers in Champagne for generations, and they are located in the small, sleepy village of Polisot, home to 341. His father’s generation mostly sold off the harvest under long term contracts to the big houses, and farmed in a conventional manner. After spending his early twenties studying and working in Burgundy as well as alongside his mentor in Polisot, Rolland Piollot, Paul launched his standalone winery in 2018. Michael Kennel, D&M
