Macduff 14 Yr. Gordon & Macphail Bottling Single Malt Scotch

The nose of this cask strength Macduff is quite complex and pretty with aromas of warm baking spices, toffee, apple, malted barley and oak shavings. The palate has a textured and sweet aspect to it with flavors of apple tart, some banana and toffee to finish. Macduff is one of only two distilleries in Scotland that has a total of five stills: two wash stills and three spirit stills. The other distillery that has this same anachronistic setup is a storied name in Scotch: Talisker, on the Isle of Skye. The wash stills each have a capacity of 20,000 liters and the spirit stills have a capacity of 12,500 liters. All the stills have a traditional Speyside shape, with wide spherical lids and tall, conical necks. The spirit exits the still at 70% ABV as a new make. In the modern day the distillery has a production capacity of 4 million liters– only 10% of the annual production is destined for single malt status; the vast majority is utilized by Dewar’s for their blends.
