Domaine de la Tuilerie 1999 Bas Armagnac

In the glass the spirit shows a deep amber color. The nose is filled with aromas of dried plums, dried apricots, hard toffee, pepper, baking spice, and oak. On the tongue, this is medium to full-bodied with additional notes of new leather, vanilla bean and complex spices. The finish is long, with a presence of alcohol to complement the flavors mingling on the palate. D&M Tasting Notes

This is the work of Colette Remazeilles, who owns a micro-domaine in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac. Of the barrels utilized, two came from trees from her own property, and all the barrels were made by the local cooper Bartholomo. At Domaine de la Tuilerie, all aging takes place in a small above ground chai (cellar). This cellar has a pounded dirt floor to heighten humidity, and small openings in the wall to allow for temperature variations throughout the year. Colette told Charles Neal (our importer) when he visited the cellars that she seeks to create delicate and fruity Armagnacs. Through her careful raising of this Armagnac, after twenty years in oak, we find this to be a delicious, unadulterated Armagnac at 44% ABV. To our knowledge, we believe this is the first time this producer has been in the US. As a side note, the label was designed by Colette herself. Enjoy! Michael Kennel D&M
