Rich fruits up front, with toffee. The palette is fruity, oak, vanilla, baking spice, toffee, and a nice medium finish. D&M Tasting Notes
Aged 15 years and distilled from mostly the hybrid Baco grape, Château de Briat Hors d’Age is big, rich, and round brandy brings to mind that chubby guy who is, to everyone’s surprise, an excellent dancer. Aromas of licorice and tobacco smoke, comforting flavors of candied nuts, chocolate, and dried fig, leading to a warm, enveloping finish. (Bas-Armagnac, 44% abv.) 94 Points Jason Wilson, Vinous July 2018.
Seven hectares of vines are divided between Bacco, Folle Blanche and Colombard. The varietals are distilled separately to a low degree of alcohol, and then aged in new wood. Assemblages of the various varietals takes place only after at least four years of separate aging. There probably is no consistency to the Briat house style beyond amazing depth and quality. The vintages and blends will vary. These are brandies of great power, weight and presence.
75% Bacco, 15 % Folle Blance, 10% Colombard, 44% ABV, 12 Years Old. Amber with extremely attractive legs: Supple, elegant texture holds notes of licorice, chocolate, toffee and oak. Excellent value.
