Joshua is a second generation winemaker, and like the great makers of Bordeaux and Burgundy he focuses on great vineyards and treats the wine with a less-is-more winemaking approach. This comes from the Shay’s Flat Vineyard which is on an elevated ridge in the center of the Pyrenees about three hours from Melborne. As he writes on his website: "A distinctively Australian setting with the vineyard surrounded by wheat paddocks, native bushland and scrub, the 20+ year old vines are rooted deep into mineral rich shale, quartz and mudstone soils, growing powerful, yet detailed fruit."
