Giovi Ortica E Limone Grappa

The nose shows a bit of mustard greens with lemon, rosemary, and a light savory scrubland character. The palate has a lovely sense of texture with some of the savory character nicely balanced by the lemon essence. Those mixologists recommend this in a highball or with tonic and a salted rim, just saying.

This is a project of Giovanni La Fauci, now in his mid-sixties who has made it his life's work to make excellent grappa. He did this first by building his own still at age 13! He has not been distilling professionally for almost four decades on his handmade old copper still. This is the product of grape must made up entirely of Nerello Mascalese from wineries located on Mount Etna; it comes off the still at ~70% ABV and is cut with filtered spring water to 42% ABV. It additionally is steeped with wild nettle leaves from the Nebrodi Mountains, and organically farmed lemon zest from Sicilian lemons.  D&M Tasting Notes
