*375 ml. This cask strength offering can be enjoyed neat or with a light addition of water. The nose shows a heady malty mix of blonde coffee, cocoa nib, fresh rye bread, and a throwback to childhood: Whoppers candy. The palate is rich and round with cocoa nib, malted milk, light spice, and a rich chocolate bunt cake finish. D&M Tasting Notes
1 3/4 yrs. 59.9% ABV The Do Good Benevolent Czar is a product we are seeing more of from craft distillers emerging from the home brew scene. The idea here is to take a finished beer and then distill it down. When you think about it the feature is in the name: distilling. You maintain the essence of the beer while concentrating the flavor set.
The Benevolent Czar, as you may have guessed, is made from what used to be a Russian Imperial Stout. Lucas’ understanding of why this was not put on the label is that term is a fiercely protected nomenclature in the beer world. So rather than cross the good people of home-brew, Do Good did a workaround and named their tipple after the reason for the category: the czars Peter the Great and Catherine the Great.
