Vin Noe "Cote de Night" Cote de Nuits Villages 2023
Vin Noe started out as a micro-negociant project by Californian Jonathan Purcell after working in Napa at White Rock Vineyards and time in cellar and fields at a handful of top notch producers in Burgundy. A half decade ago he bought the cellar and parcels of Jean Jacques Morel. Morel had long practiced organics across his 0.80ha of vines in Saint Aubin and went even further by being renowned for his no-till approach. The organics has been maintained, though he does selectively till the vineyards. In the cellar there is a natural fermentation in old barrels with extended lees contact and no additional sulfur utilized throughout the time in cellar.
This Côte de Nuits-Villages (Côte de Night) is a Pinot Noir that is sourced from 60 Year old Vines. The vineyard either is or was previously owned by Camille Thiriet in Corgoloin. It has long been organic, and has since been farmed with a further focus of biodynamics. This plot has an Eastern exposure (quite ideal) and is atop a sold of sand, gravel and clay. In the cellar it was fermented with a dry carbonic in vat (10 days) before being gently transferred to old oak barrels to age for 9 months.
The nose opens with lifted red cherry notes that are nicely balanced by notes of baked earth, clay minerality, and a just there anise whiff. On the palate this is just shy of moderate in weight with sweet cherry notes balanced by earth, spices and clay minerality. - D&M NOTES (MK, 01/2026)
