Pra Amarone della Valpolicella 2018
Pra farms organically and is perhaps best known for making incredibly age worthy white Soave. This comes from the family's vineyards in the Valpolicella hills, just west of Soave and north of Verona. All Amarone della Valpolicella is made from the traditional indigenous red varieties (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta), and the process involves air drying grapes on mats in a controlled environment for about 2 months, then progressing through fermentation. After fermentation the wine is aged in barriques and tonneaux for 2 years, then assembled and aged for a further year in large barrels.
This is a profound and substantial wine with sweet cherry, gentle earth, dried flowres, cocoa, and mixed spices in the nose. On the palate this has a sense of density and powdery tannins with sour orange, flowers, dark cherry and a bit of soft earth. Amarone is a classic ‘vino da meditazione,’ drunk by itself or with aged cheeses, or a ribeye if that is more your speed. MK D&M Tasting Notes Jan 2026
