Huet Clos de Bourg Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie 2022
CRITICAL ACCLAIM:
“Notes of baked apple, pear, spices and white fruits preface the 2022 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie, a medium- to full-bodied, concentrated and layered sweet wine. A fine phenolic structure elegantly frames it, and the wine concludes with a fresh, telluric and seemingly endless finish. Long, precise and seamless, this is a standout cuvée and one of the highlights of the vintage at this storied address. Residual sugar: 105 grams per liter. Drink date: 2030-2062” - 97 PTS., YOHAN CASTAING, WINE ADVOCATE (10/2025)
“Just 650 bottles of the 2022 Clos du Bourg Premiere Trie Moelleux were made, and it is sweet, gentle and round. It fills the mouth with its sweet caress, exuding pure flavors of toffee apple, caramelized pear and pineapple. While sweet, it is less unctuous than you'd expect from many sweet wines from warmer sites due to the climate and soils, bringing a sense of cleanness and fine texture on the finish. That said, the lower acidity of this year means it's not quite as long and linear. A recent bottle of 2003 with similarly low acidity aged well, so I expect the same here. (105g/L).” - 93 PTS., REBECCA GIBB MW, VINOUS MEDIA
IMPORTER NOTES:
VINEYARD: “This ancient, walled vineyard was acquired in 1953. It has estate’s the shallowest, stoniest soils and produces wines of great depth and richness. Many consider the 6 ha Clos du Bourg to be Vouvray’s finest single site.”
WINEMAKING: “Harvest is by hand, and occurs over 2-3 successive passes (“tries”) through the vineyards. Intact bunches are pressed into a 50/50 mix of tanks and old demi-muids, where alcoholic fermentation proceeds naturally with indigenous yeasts. When their alcoholic fermentations conclude, the wines are racked into old barrels where they spend the winter before bottling in April. Malolactic fermentation is neither encouraged nor discouraged.”
ABOUT THE PRODUCER: “Since its founding in 1928, Vouvray’s Domaine Huet has been the standard-bearer for great, age-worthy Chenin Blanc. And to this day, year after year, the estate produces some of the world’s most compelling white wines—and in a remarkable range that spans sparkling, dry, semi-dry, and breathtaking dessert styles.”
