Domaine du Pourra "In Fine" Gigondas 2003

This estate is owned by Jean-Christian Mayordome. He has two professions with little in common:  Jean-Christian is a doctor and a winegrower.  After a chance encounter with well aged wine in his mid thirties, he purchased an existing old vine vineyard in Gigondas. He farms organically and since 2019 biodynamically, but this 2003 of course predates that certification. Jean-Christian recalls that 2003 was a quite warm year and this is sourced from the Dentelles de Montmirail site, mostly rocky limestone rich soil. It was aged for 4 years after harvest in old barrels followed by 10 years in concrete tanks, with a small amount of SO2 at bottlings.

In the glass this has a dusty brick color in the rim. The nose shows light spice, savory dried cherry and plum, earth, forest floor, licorice and minerality. On the palate this feels fully developed and echoes the nose on a moderate weight frame. This would work perfectly with duck breast in a boysenberry sauce, eggplant ragout, or a similarly hearty preparation. MK D&M Tasting Notes Jan 2026
