Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet Champs Gains Rouge 2023
ABOUT THE VINEYARD: "Les Champs Gain is a Premier Cru climat in the center of the Chassagne-Montrachet commune at the southern end of the Côte d'Or. It is planted to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, making both red and white wines, but it is the medium-bodied, rounded white wines that attract the most attention from critics and wine lovers alike. Like many of its neighbors, Les Champs Gain is made suitable for high-quality viticulture by both its soils and its sunny aspect. A gentle slope faces vines toward the southeast, giving them exposure to the morning sunshine while shading them from the harsher afternoon sun. Like much of the surrounding vineyards, Les Champs Gain benefits from a high level of limestone, overlaid with a shallow layer of marly, pebbly red-tinged clay. This helps develop concentration and mineral character in the final wine. The vineyard shares its name with a climat in neighboring Puligny-Montrachet: "Champs Gain" is taken to mean a "reclaimed field" in French."
CRITICAL ACCLAIM:
"An even light crimson red. The bouquet is deliciously perfumed, very sensual yet with precision. 40% whole bunches, which gives the delicious sense of lift. Fine and long, happy to sign up for this. Drink from 2027-2033." - 92 PTS, JASPER MORRIS, MW, INSIDE BURGUNDY (01/2025)
