Benoit Lahaye Grand Cru Brut Nature
Benoit Lahaye is located in Bouzy, the Grand Cru village in the Montagne de Reims; and the family has been making Champagne there since the 1930’s. They have 4.8 hectares of vineyards, located in the villages of Bouzy (3.2 hectares), Ambonnay (1 ha) and Tauxières (0.6 ha). He farms biodynamically, but does not have certification. This cuvee is based on the cold 2021 vintage with 40% from previous years. This is made up of 90% Pinot Noir, and 10% Chardonnay, and after its ageing in contact with lees was disgorged without the addition of dosage. The nose is quite direct and focused with a core of minerality, clotted cream, just there spice, and early season green apples. The palate has a direct and zippy acidity to it -- for hard core Brut Nature aficionados. - D&M TASTING NOTES (MK, 10/2025)
