Bois-Brincon Anjou Blanc Blaison Terre de Gres 2020
This is an estate with a sense of history. It was founded in the 1200s by the Saint Jean d'Angers in the heart of Anjou. Xavier Cailleau is now the fifth generation of his family to own and work some of the oldest plantings in the Loire; joined by his wife Géraldine and a small team, they farm their 24 hectares biodynamically. This cuvee comes from the Terre de Grès site-- 1.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc grown on chalky, tuffeau soils. The nose opens with a light lift of citrus, some chalk, tree fruits, and a light slate note. The palate is just shy of moderate in weight with a bit of texture from its passage in old oak barrel with characteristic Chenin Blanc notes of beeswax, tree fruits, and a candied lemon peel to finish.
