D&M NOTES (12/2023):

TASTING: In the glass this shows a beautiful amber color with additional copper highlights. The nose has notes of dried fruits towards prune and apricots along with a higher toned floral note. On the palate further fruit notes emerge including caramelized apricot, quince, honey, orange peel, tobacco, and licorice. The finish is round, but also very long, with recurring notes of slightly smoky oak and spice.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The small domaine of Remy Landier is located in the Fins Bois in the commune of Rouillac, home to 2,983 people. Their history can be traced back to the year 1890, when Julien Girard planted his first vines in Cors. Over his lifetime he became known for the quality eaux de vie they produced. He, like most of his neighbors, sold all of his distillate to the large houses. In 1973, Girard’s grandson Remi Landier decided to create a small range of Cognacs that were to be marketed under his own name, while still selling most of the yearly production to the large houses. Today his granddaughter Geraldine has returned to the family domaine and continues the work of her ancestors. For a period of time she worked at the Maison du Whisky in Paris for exposure to the wider world of spirits from around the world. 

ABOUT THIS RELEASE: Extra comes from two properties, one in the Grande Champagne town Malaville, and the other from their Fins Bois property in Cors.  The Grande Champagne comes from Geraldine’s grandmother Ginette Landier’s side of the family and is 35 years old. The Fins Bois was produced by Jean Yves and his brother Alain and is 25 years old. Careful blending was used to accentuate the power, intensity, and linear focus of the Grande Champagne, while the rounder, fruitier Fins Bois permitted more glycerin to float atop the cognac’s underlying structure.
