Vesper 2013 Rancho Guejito Vineyard White Wine. 57% Grenanche Blanc, 22% Picpoul, 21% Rousanne. From as far south as San Diego, this shows unique directions white varietals can go in in the far south of California. The nose shows honeysuckly, spice, citrus and an orange peel and clove tone. The palate has good minerals with moderate weight and the moderate acid with a carryover from the nose. D&M Tasting Notes
The vineyard was established in 2011 23 miles from the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 430 feet on Visalia sandy loam soils at the mouth of Rockwood Canyon in San Pasqual Valley. The trellising consists of a modified sprawl with 8' X 6' spacing.
The clusters were sorted and de-stemmed whole berry into an egg and T-bins, and layered with dry ice for a five day cold soak. Primary fermentation took place without inoculation and the wine was pressed-off after 20 days to a 500L puncheon, 1000L egg and 1200L flex tank for aging on gross lees for 14 months, then racked for bottling.
