This organically farmed blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Carignan from Central Spain. This is more developed at this point versus what we saw with the 2017. The nose shows a healthy pop of raspberry, kirsch, gravelly minerality, garrigue, and a bit of a Porto like Duoro bake. The palate is moderate in weight with a gravelly minerality up front with raspberry, garrigue, and a finish of soft cherry notes. D&M Tasting Notes
Vendrell's vineyards are farmed organically without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. They are continuously plowed not only for weed management, but to encourage deep root growth. By doing this, the grapes will inevitably show the underlying character of the terroir but also be more resistant to drought. His winery is perfectly suited to his artisan stature. It is modern, but manageable by one person. With the help of his father and an old family friend in the vineyards, this is truly hand-made wine that undergoes minimal handling in the cellars and leaps out of the glass once released from its bottle.
Josep-Maria Vendrell's "second" wine will show up most others in the appellation. 80% Garnacha, 20% Cariñena from the younger vines of the estate. Red fruit, mostly cherries create a very captivating nose while the airy structure is full, but not firm. Very classy wine, with good complexity for this price. Importer Notes
