• Sine Qua Non 2015 Trouver L'arene Syrah

The brilliant 2015 Syrah Trouver l'Arene is powerful and dense, but also light on its feet for such an intense wine. Inky blue/purplish fruit, wild flowers, mint, spice and lavender all flesh out in the glass, but it is the wine's textural finesse that really elevates it. Rich, opulent and super-expressive, the 2015 has all the elements to develop into a spectacular Syrah. The blend is 80.5% Syrah, 7% Petite Sirah, 7% Mourvèdre, 3.5% Viognier and 2% Grenache done with 34% whole clusters.  94-97 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous September 2017

This is another stellar set of wines from Manfred and Elaine Krankl. I found much to admire in the 2015s, some of which I tasted as preliminary blends (reviewed here) and others I saw from barrel as separate components that are destined for Sine Qua Non's higher range of wines that see extended time in oak. The bottled 2014s are just as brilliant from bottle as they were from barrel. Those wines are distinguished by an element of brightness to the 2014s that is hard to miss. Readers will find the 2013s much darker and more brooding in style. Lastly, Sine Qua Non fans will want to check out the 2014 Graciano, the first wine made from the Krankls' Third Twin Vineyard in Los Alamos. Antonio Galloni
