Sandlands 2021 Lodi Red Table Wine

25 barrels produced. The 2021 Red Table Wine (Lodi) is rich, dark and expressive, but in the style that runs through all the wines. Succulent dark cherry, dried herbs, menthol and rose petal all build beautifully in the glass. There's terrific depth and textural intensity, not to mention tons of character. The red-toned fruit of Carignane is really popping today.  Zinfandel , Carignane and Cnsault in equal parts make for a compelling red. 94 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous January 2023.

This blend comes from three of the oldest California vineyards and is in equal parts Cinsault from the Bechthold Vineyard (planted in 1886), Carignane from Spenker Ranch (1900), and Zinfandel from Kirschenmann Vineyard (1915), the winery's home ranch in Victor, CA. Sandlands is the personal project of Tegan Passalacqua. The line-up encompasses the forgotten classic California varieties, primarily grown in decomposed granite (sand), from regions and vineyards that have been farmed for many generations but have remained the outliers of California viticulture. Winery Notes.
