One of 300 bottles they released for the world. The nose of this No Age Islay shows a heady mix of smoke, spice, camphor and a dusty earth joined to aromas of asian pear, saltwater taffy, lavender oil and wet rocks. The palate has a high tone of smoked nori, seaweed, melon and tropical fruits with Laphroaig’s characteristic iodine to finish. D&M Tasting Notes

43% ABV. Silvano Samaroli was born six weeks after the start of World War II in Benghazi Libya, where his father was stationed. After finishing his schooling, Silvano went to work as a sales manager for a liquor store in Italy rather than go on to University. By the age of 29, he formed his own company, Samaroli Wine and Spirits Merchants in Rome.
For the first decade of running his own company, he worked more as a straight ahead importer of wines and whiskies. By 1979, he had acquired the knowledge and expertise to make more of a mark on the whisky world. He began a new technique where he would choose a whisky and re-cask it in new oak to add layers and depth of flavor. Throughout the aging process, Silvio would experiment with different types of oak and different barrels to create multiple layers of flavor and complexity. This lead him to be the first non-Scottish and non-English Scotch Whisky bottler. If you come across a Scotch whisky bottle put out by Samaroli from the early 1980s on, you can be assured of an excellent whisky. He was a pioneer of the whisky movement with his No Age line, first released in 1992.
Silvano Samaroli the founder, passed away February 16, 2017. We had already selected and taken delivery on this lovely Islay bottling when we learned of his death. Michael Kennel, D&M
