Charleston Sercial Special Reserve Madeira

CRITICAL ACCLAIM:

“This wine only has one percent residual sugar, which with Madeira’s inherent tangy acids, comes across as quite dry, but beautifully buffered. The bouquet is a first class blend of white cherries, oranges, a touch of nutskin, fresh nutmeg, smoky overtones and a lovely base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and beautifully transparent, with a superb core, racy acids and stunning tension and purity on the superbly focused and very long finish. This is really a terrific bottle!” - 94 PTS., JOHN GILMAN, VIEW FROM THE CELLAR (01/2014)

“The Charleston Sercial is the driest of the collection, offering nutty aromas tinged with honey, caramel and maple syrup. Dried figs, honey and candied citrus flavors mark the palate, which is wonderfully smooth. The long finish features racy yet balanced acidity.” - 93 PTS., EDITORS' CHOICE, WINE ENTHUSIAST (11/2006)

IMPORTER NOTES:

OVERVIEW: “The driest wine in the series, Charleston Sercial celebrates the refined, delicate Madeiras so prized by our forefathers. Like all classic Sercials, this bottling is crisp and racy, its very slight sweetness balanced by an exhilarating, mouthwatering tang of acidity. Sercial excels as an aperitif with nuts or olives, with soups, and with a host of mature, hard cheeses.”

WINEMAKING: “Sercial must is fermented to relative dryness and then brandy is added to stop fermentation and to achieve a final alcohol level between 17% and 20%. Aged in cask.”

COMPOSITION: “A blend of >85% Sercial with a portion of very old wines. Sercial is grown at high elevations and is generally the last variety to be harvested.”

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0915/5900/2403/files/f0abbd5e-e3be-48e7-8203-70e13adbf339_8db9d9d6_c42b68fb1140614a56daf1a4f6e6e2d075b13adf_Wine_2520Blank_2520Bottle_451f5fe0-f5fb-49c1-a600-74d991f43220.jpg?v=1791462102
