• Pegaso Sierra de Gredos 2016 Zeta Granacha

High altitude slate and granite soils, 60+ year old vines, and EU Organic all make this a terrific Grenache. The nose opens with soft red cherry, black stone minerality, and a hint of pepper spice. The palate is balanced and moderate in weight with cherry, light earth, and a hint of pepper on the finish. D&M Tasting Notes

The 2016 Pegaso Zeta is the first wine completely made with the help of winemaker Marc Isart and reflects the change in direction towards fresher wines with less oak, helped by the natural conditions of the vintage, much fresher than 2016. This is floral and quite expressive, with fully ripe flavors from a vintage with a slow ripeness given the good yields. It has nice balance and great drinkability, with good citrus freshness, reminiscent of blood oranges that to me represent the bright red fruit and the citrus spark. It has the depth and complexity of great dry farmed wines that deliver great grapes. Delicious. - 91 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Sierra de Gredos is the mountainous region located on the continental divide of Spain. It is a transitional zone where Northern Spain gives way to Southern Spain. The wines from the Sierra de Gredos mountains to the west of Madrid (aka Vinos de Madrid) have finally begun to claim their rightful place alongside other top wine regions focussed on producing world-class garnacha (grenache). For many insiders, the region is now considered to be leading the conversation with regard to the potential of this Mediterranean grape, now understood to be indigenous to Spain. Yet, few U.S. drinkers know the origin story of this remote region, a place which the writer/philosopher Miguel de Unamuno described as "the roof of Castile and the stone heart of Spain."

Zeta is the entry-level from 890-920m at the entry into Cebreros. Produced with 100% traditional, EU organic, bush-trained garnacha vines. The slate and granite soils are blended, giving depth and fruit character to this wine. Vineyards: El Robledillo, El Mojón, Presidente. Hand-picked grapes with a native yeasts fermentation in 500L French barrels of different origins and ages. 9 months in foudre, steel tanks, and 500L barrels for blending and added élevage.
