Old Forester D&M Store Pick 2022 Barrel Strength Bourbon

We continue to be fascinated by how two barrels that started off the same from new make through maturation can taste so very different. The first barrel pick we did with Old Forester back in June 2021 was robust to say the least and dominated by red hots and deep caramel notes. The barrel we have here, is to our collective taste much more approachable and balanced, even with its quite robust proof. At first sniff we called to mind maple, caramel, citrus peels, and dried stone fruits. On the tongue this has a creaminess to it with a great texture and flavors of maple syrup, cinnamon, peppercorns, ginger, and candied citrus peels. Adding water softens this up nicely, but the presence and intensity of aromas and flavors remain, always a pleasure with cask strength whiskey.
