• Marangona Chiaretto 2018 Rosato

The name of this- Chiaretto comes from the Italian word 'chiaro' that translates to 'pale.' The name is required by law for roses that come from the shores of Lake Garda, and pretty much ensures a Provence color to these wines. It is a blend of some grapes we rarely see in the US: 40% Groppello, 40% Marzemino, 10% Barbera, 10% Sangiovese from 30 year old vines. The nose is bright, light, and lightly salty with just there apricot, peach, white flowers, and a light citrus. The palate is light with zingy acid and a savory saline edge with citrus and ripe apricot. Around 340 cases made!  D&M Tasting Notes

Lugana is an appellation nestled around the base of Lake Garda, just east of Verona in Lombardy. Quite atypical for Italy, the soils are a mix of clay and limestone, which gives a cut to the wines that reminded us of a zingy Sancerre or top-flight Muscadet. We found Alessandro Cutolo to be a shy and modest man who was quite friendly as conversation heated up and we delved deeper into his line of wines. For those wondering about the name, Marangona is the name of the bell that was rung to signify the end of the work day.  Michael Kennel, D&M
