• Chateau d'Yquem 1981 Half Bottle Sauternes

*375 ml. Outer quote mark The dark horse of the Yquem tasting at CECWINE in November 2004. A slight deeper colour compared to the 79 and 80. Rich honey and peach with superb definition and focus. The palate has great balance and verve with exquisite freshness and joie-de-vivre. Apricot and orange. There is a lot of finesse and grace here. It its harmony and texture, rather than concentration that elevates it above the others. (NM) Inner quote mark.  94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (12/1999)

A very warm month of March caused early flowering. Paradoxically, temperatures were cool the rest of the growing season. A series of showers arrived in late September. Except for an easy first pass between the 5th and the 10th of October, it took a great deal of patience and expertise thereafter to pick grapes with acceptable sugar levels. Fortunately, an easterly wind had a miraculous effect. In the long run, this has turned out to be a very beautiful Yquem. Winery Notes
