Buffalo Trace Store Pick 2021 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Our 2021 barrel pick has aromas of funnel cake, light roasted hazelnut, and the traditional cinnamon hard candies. The palate has vanilla cake batter, licking the spatula viscosity, balanced by pepper, clove spice and a bit of honey. D&M Tasting Notes

One of our favorite cheap and cheerful large distillery bottling. Distilling has happened on the banks of the Kentucky river for 200 years in the footprint that Buffalo Trace calls home today . Buffalo Trace as a brand was created by Elmer T Lee in 1999 to highlight the mid-floor flavors of the distillery that shares its name. Initially a nine year old, the average age of the typical whiskey in bottles is closer to 5-6 today, though we suspect the barrel we have for you this month may be a little older. Buffalo Trace is old school in not sharing their recipes, but this is what we can fairly say. The Buffalo Trace mash #1, shared with George T Stagg and Eagle Rare is a low rye mashbill, and the prognosticators have come up with a mash bill of around 10% rye, 6% malted barley and the remainder is corn from Kentucky and Indiana.
