Banyan 2021 Monterey County Gewurztraminer

This lovely little Gewertz is sourced from the Monterey County area. The nose shows rose pedals, soft tropical fruits, and lychee. The palate is moderate in weight with soft acid, lychee, rose water and a touch of spice. Fresh good juice...D&M Tasting Notes

Having tried it both ways, we now choose to mechanically harvest versus handpicking. The added skin contact time while in transport to the winery boosts the aromatics and savoriness of the wine. Once at the winery, grapes are pressed then cold settled for 72 hours before the fermentation is allowed to begin.

Banyan was created in 2002 with the idea to make wines that would pair with Southeast Asian cuisine, particularly the Thai food that Kenny had grown up eating. At one point, there was Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Viognier, but over time, the line has been trimmed to just what has always been it's most popular wine, the Banyan Monterey County Gewürztraminer.
